Availability Versus Performance
We discuss analytic procedures for evaluating the availability of parallel computer systems comprised of P processors with N tasks subject to failures and repairs. In addition, we argue, via analytic and numeric examples, that not incorporating the task-stream into the model is an inadequate approach for evaluating system performance.
متن کاملSoftware Design Conflicts Maintainability versus Performance and Availability
The rapid growth in the telecommunication market increases the performance requirements on applications supporting telecommunication networks. Many of these applications are based on commercial Relation DataBase Management Systems (RDBMS), a component which tends to become a bottleneck. Therefore, it is important to fully use the capacity of the database. A database server can usually not be fu...
متن کاملCapacity versus availability trade-offs for availability-based routing
The core idea of availability-based routing consists of exploiting the availability as a link-state metric: this kind of approach has received attention by virtue of the ability to avoid excessively unavailable paths. A recent availabilitybased heuristic design technique for reliable optical transport networks [IEEE Sel. Areas Commun. 23, 1520 (2005)] showed that the availability metric returns...
متن کاملAvailability versus Confidentiality of Electronic Health Records
Digitization of healthcare data is an ongoing process that will eventually lead to large nationwide information systems where sensitive medical data is stored. An important issue in this process is the protection of patients’ privacy. Applying security measures so that a desired level of privacy protection can be attained has proven to be an interesting and difficult problem when considering th...
متن کاملPerformance Availability for Networks of Workstations
Performance Availability for Networks of Workstations by Remzi H. Arpaci-Dusseau Software systems for large-scale distributed and parallel machines are difficult to build. When run in dynamic, production environments, not only must such systems perform correctly, but they must also operate with high performance. Much of the previous work in distributed computing has addressed the design of larg...
